Selecting a Theme for the Spare Bedroom.

Yesterday was one of those days. I was plenty rested, but I was definately not feeling like my usual jovial self. And the day was rainy, so my spirits were low. To make matters worse, the tiring drag of a lingering boredom was starting to settle in. So I lazily made my way down the stairs, and meandored through the basement for a while.

I was looking for anything I could find in the house as a way to spark my imagination. But after picking up this and looking at that, my mind was exhausted from trying to come up with an answer. So I resigned to the fact, I had no clue what I wanted to do and crawling upstairs to the computer was my only answer.

I was in luck!

While searching the internet, I found a picture of an adorable, little chair, and I knew right away I found my idea. And since I had an old chair and some left over paint in the basement, I could start right away.

But when considering the kind of scene to paint, I first had to choose a room to put the chair in. I decided the spare bedroom needed the most attention. But there was no theme for the guest room. How was I going to decide on a scene without a topic?

Personally I wanted a theme serving two purposes, allowing for a more memorable stay, and helping our guests' to better understand the region we live in. So because there are a high number of cranes in the area, from the lake nearby, I felt the image of a crane would serve nicely. And after finding my topic, I painted on the Baby Blue paint color to compliment the rooms already dark, blue walls.

Once the project was finished, I was very pleased with the results.

The chair turned out great!

AND I forgot about those rainy day blues.

Decorating with a Throw Pillow.

 

 

 

I went on a much needed vacation earlier this month. And for part of my two weeks off, I visited the sites from a string of little towns in the surrounding area, and stopped at all the cutesy stores, and Mom-and-Pop Restaurants, I could along the way.

But having travelled farther than expected, and after enduring such an enjoyably, fun-filled day as I had, I checked into a hotel to avoid the sure to be exhausting drive home. And I couldn’t have been more excited to get to the room.

But then I found out about the hot tub! Of course I suddenly felt awake. lol.

Well anyway, as I was walking to my room I saw a lounge chair fashioned with a decorative pillow.

And I thought, "Our chair in the computer room needs one of those."

So when I got home the next day, I collected some material and went to work.

I was not sure what kind of design to create, but I knew I wanted some form of orange as the color, and to make the pillows reversable. I figured if I designed each side differently, I could slightly change the look of the room, from time to time, simply by rotating the pillow face. And because the Art/Craft Room across the hallway has a rich-orange color theme, the rooms would also tie in nicely togethor by way of the Sewing Room’s throw pillows.

All in all, the pillow was a success. I finished the project very quickly, with inexpensive, recycled materials.

Filling Space in the Living Room

 

Yesterday morning, I went through the house searching for any little improvements I could make. You know, maybe I could do a touch up here or make a tiny adjustment there....Boy, I was off!

After a while I found myself in the living room. And when scanning over the room, I noticed how the bare, bricked chimney wall, in combination with the large room and vaulted ceilings, created a wide, open space above the fireplace. The naked wall needed to be filled with some kind of decor.

I thought, "No. I am not going to put a huge painting on top of the fireplace mantle."

But then, shortly after as I was PAINTING the peice, I realized I actually WAS going to take on the big challenge." Good grief. But first, I did some research.

I didn't know what style of painting to go with, so I visited a number of different sites before finding an article I completly agreed with. Lilia Parker, an inspirational articles expert, wrote in her article The Benefits Of Abstract Painting, how"Abstract pictures can provide a stark accent to unobtrusive, soft décor." Perfect! I have; cushy, vanilla carpet, light, khaki colored furniture, and quiet, brown support beams overhead throughout the room.

"Yikes! Now I need to find a color," I thought. "I have not even painted the walls in the living room yet, how am I going to pick a color?!"

I quickly decided browns, and a variety of off colors would match the decor best. So, not having to work until later I started painting right away.

A Cute Halloween Decoration

       

 

A couple of months ago, I decided I wanted to add a decoration to the spare bedroom for Halloween. And since the idea has been brewing for quite some time, I have managed to stir up exactly what I wanted from different yard sales and thrift stores along the way. So having the materials ready, I put the project togethor over my past couple days off from work.

Omg. You would be surprised how long a chair takes to paint! Ugh.

At one point, I felt like I was never going to finish the undertaking. Yeah. I was a little excited. Lol.

But before I knew, the chair was painted, the pillow was sewn, and the spider was tied to the top. So if you're wondering what the ingredients are for a cute halloween decoration this year; just add one painted chair, mix in three creepy extras, and throw in a spooky little pillow and...Poof! You have a charming halloween decor.

Adding the Color Gray

     

Adding the color gray to my boring, beige bedroom was rewarding. At first, I painted the room dark purple to match my cedar bedroom set, and then added in a white comforter. But afterwards, I thought, "This is okay...but just okay."

The walls were loud and the bedspread was too bright. So I added some gray.

Let me tell you, the result was amazing! The room looked interesting, and the loud wall and comforter combo became quiet. Plus, there are so many tones of gray I can always add a few more in.
